Sometimes the simplest ideas change everything...Like that day when I "invented" microwave popcorn at UT. It was so simple. Heat is all that's needed to get it popping; dried corn has its own internal emulsifiers. One day while I was foraging in the massive community kitchen, I put a scoop of kernels into a brown paper bag and popped it in the wave machine. Soon thereafter, there were lines at the microwave. It became the snack of Taos Co-op century and I was the inventor.
Recently I discovered that I don't need a microwave for anything except maybe, let's say, microwave popcorn. I have not had a microwave in over a year and I don't really miss it. The only thing I gave up was the popcorn. I must have forgotten how to make popcorn the old-fashioned way, with a pan. Today, I remembered how easy it was to make it on the stove. Sometimes the simplest ideas change everything.
